11 February 2015 - 20 February 2015 > 10 days
Travel report of our third safari. This time we went back to the northern part of Tanzania (now including the "real" Serengeti).
Day 1 - Flight from Amsterdam to Arusha
Day 2 - Relaxing day at Lake Chala (afternoon walk)
Relaxing day at Lake Chala. We made the mistake of relaxing in the morning and going for a wal in the afternoon. Too hot! Always do the walking in the early morning. But it was a very nice place and we took lots of photos.
After the walk we photographed lots of butterflies.
Day 3 - Travelday to Tarangire National Park. Afternoon game drive.
After breakfast on our way to Tarangire National Park. Nice (and actually easy) trip followed by a game drive in the park. After this we went for our very romantic stay at Maramboi Tented Camp. I would recommend this place, so peaceful and beautiful located. The wildebeests and zebras and all other wildlife simply walk trough the campsite!
Late evening we were experimenting with photographing the night sky. Wow.
Day 4 - Morning game drive in Tarangire National Park. Checked in at Tarangire Safari Lodge. Afternoon game drive.
Fist another game drive Tarangire National Park. After this we checked in at Tarangire Safari Lodge. This place offers a fantastic overview of the Tarangire River. In the afternoon another game drive in Tarangire National Park. We saw so many animals today!
When we came back to Tarangire Safari Lodge cocktail hour had began. After a few (triple) Gin Tonics live was even more beautiful. In the beginning of the evening thunder was rolling in, that combined with the view from the terras. Heaven!
Day 5 - Morning game drive Tarangire. In the afternoon we drove to Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
After a morning game drive and a last cup of coffee at Tarangire Safari Lodge we drove off to our next stop: Rothia Valley Tented Camp. We thought we were going for a walk in the afternoon in the NgoroNgoro Highlands but it did not go through because of the rain. Instead we relaxed at the lodge and took some photos in the direct surroundings.
Day 6 - Ngorongoro crater and drive to edge of serengeti.
In the morning a visit (our second) to the Ngorongoro Crater. Because we took the Eastern Crater Lemala Gate to the Ngorongoro Crater we first drove along the mountain ridge. During this drive we came literally face-to-face with a young lion which was hiding at the side of the road. The Crater itself was beautiful and overwhelming as ever.
In Lerai Forest we also saw a Martial Eagle. From that moment on one of my favourite birds!
After this visit we drove to the edge of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (near the edge of the Serengeti) to our next lodge: Kenzan Tented Camp. A new experience for us, driving on a road completely invisible because of the rainfall...
Day 7 - Long game drive in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Today a long game drive in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Starting at Lake Ndutu and then follow the route along the edge of the Serengeti. In the afternoon a relaxing moment at the lodge and of course taking photos around the camp site.
Day 8 - Morning game drive. In afternoon drive to Kati Kati Tented Kamp in the centre of the Serengeti.
In the morning another game drive along the edge of the Serengeti. In the afternoon we drove to the next lodge: Kati Kati Tented Kamp in the middle of the Serengeti. An amazing day with a perfect sighting of a leopard in a tree. Followed by a romantic sunset at the tented kamp.
Day 9 - Game drive in the morning and afternoon in the Serengeti.
Our first official gamedrive in the Serengeti! Fantastic, so many birds of prey. Our guide really likes the fact that we love all animals. He does his best finding them all from very small to large!
After a great lunch another game drive in the Serengeti followed by a beautiful sunset and a perfect evening in an amazing place in the world. We love safaris!
Day 10 - Long travelday to Arusha. And flight home...
Our last day ... A very long trip back to the airport. But of course we enjoyed the scenery along the way. The famous kopjes are amazing. Tanzania we will be back!
