Giant Brown Spitting Cobra

The first ever snake species we found in Africa is the Giant Brown Spitting Cobra (Naja Ashei), a large, shiny cobra, that may grow to over 2.5 metres.

This species was regarded as the brown phase of the Black-necked spitting cobra until DNA research showed it is a separate species and more closely related to the Mozambique spitting cobra. The classification of this new species is from 2007 and shows that there is still much to be discovered in the animal world!
