Black Rhinoceros
Did you know that a Black Rhino can move extremely fast, and have been recorded at highs of 55 km/h. They can change direction surprisingly quickly, and can run right through scrub and bushes. In comparison the White Rhino can only go as fast as 40 km/h.
White Rhinoceros
The real origin of the name isn’t 100% certain but the most common belief is that it’s a mistranslation from Dutch to English. The Dutch called the mouth “wijd” (meaning: wide) but this was misinterpreted as “white”….
Some differences between Black and White Rhinos:
- Whites have a very broad flat mouth with aids in feeding off large quantities of grass. Blacks have a rather small hooked shaped mouth for feeding on trees and shrubs.
- Whites are larger (max 2500kg) than Blacks (max 1000 kg)
- Whites are much more relaxed than the short tempered Blacks
- And … they have the SAME color!
