Buffalo (1) - African Wildlife

General

The photo shows two male Cape Buffaloes romping a bit. Very impressive while they both weight around 900 kg !

Interesting facts

- Cape Buffaloes or African Buffaloes have a perfect democracy: "When they are ready to travel, they will stand and turn in the direction they want to go. The majority of "votes" wins and the head female will lead the herd in the winning direction."

- Cape Buffaloes are very aggressive and have a tendency to attack humans. They are very protective of each other and take care of sick and old members of the herd, shielding them from predators.

- The Cape Buffalo has an exceptional memory. It will recognize a person (such as a hunter) that hurt it in the past and it will attack it at their next encounter. Same is with lions. They will "preventively" kill cubs of lions that are known attackers of the herd.
